Adelia!

In Memory of Adelia Mae Dundas (2011-2021)

Grade 1.5

An energetic take on a familiar hymn sung for and by many children across the world, "Adelia!" captures the infectious enthusiasm of a fiery, boisterous little red-head girl juxtaposed with the feeling of a tender embrace from her loving Lord and Savior.

"Adelia!" is written with a small-school band program in mind but has the power to sound good with any sized group. Range-wise, this piece is playable at the end of most students' first year of study. Clarinets do not cross the break and brass ranges are less than an octave. Generous doubling in all parts. Optional parts for more advanced percussionists included.

A great closer for your young band with plenty of opportunities for deeper learning and a heartbreaking/heartwarming story behind it.

Freezing Snow

Originally composed for marimba and solo voice, this arrangement adds a majestic layer of harmony in the vocals and takes the pressure off of the marimbist to sing while playing. This opens up Freezing Snow to be accessible to many more singers and players. Using patterns and permutations from the best of intermediate marimba literature and legato vocals, this work is a fun piece for singers and marimbists alike! I hope after listening you will have Freezing Snow in your ear… in your ear… I mean the melodyof… you know what I mean…

Imagine the snow is just starting to form. It is not a heavy or wet snow, but a light and fluffy snow. It melts as soon as it touches your skin. One flake at a time, it builds up and there is full snowfall.
